Shocked Lewis Hamilton grabs Hungarian pole ahead of Sebastian Vettel

A stunned Lewis Hamilton put in a blisteringly fast lap to blow all his rivals out of the water and claim pole for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver clinched top spot ahead of Sebastian Vettel with his last throw of the dice and admitted his surprise when told of his achievement by his team over his radio.
‘Is that pole?’ he asked after his engineer informed him his lap was good enough for p1.
‘Yes,’ came the reply. ‘We’re as surprised as you.’
Hamilton will be joined on the front row at the Hungaroring tomorrow by Red Bull’s Vettel, who had already registered what appeared to be an unbeatable lap of his own, before the Brit’s final effort.

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean will start tomorrow’s race from third, ahead of Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen’s Lotus.
It was another tough afternoon for McLaren who saw Sergio Perez qualify in ninth, while Jenson Button was the biggest casualty of Q2, as the McLaren man could only make 13th.
Top 10: 1) Hamilton, 2) Vettel, 3) Grosjean, 4) Rosberg, 5) Alonso, 6) Raikkonen, 7) Massa, 8) Ricciardo, 9) Perez, 10) Webber
